Bot Video Downloader — browser extension. Last updated: 20 August 2026.
Bot Video Downloader does not collect, transmit, store on any server, or sell any user data. It has no server. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no usage counting, and no update or licence check. Nothing the extension observes about you or your browsing ever leaves your computer.
The extension is made and maintained by one person, not a company. Questions about this policy or about the extension: botviddownloader@gmail.com.
It watches the network requests the pages you visit make, in order to notice when a page is playing a video. When you press the download button, it fetches that video — from the same website you are already on — and saves it to your computer as an ordinary file.
Everything below is kept on your own computer, in the browser's local extension storage. None of it is sent anywhere, and all of it is deleted when you remove the extension.
| Your settings | Preferred quality, interface language, list filters and similar choices you make on the Settings screen. |
|---|---|
| Download history | A list of what you have downloaded — name, size, address and a thumbnail — so the extension can show you what it saved. You can clear it at any time from the downloads screen. How many entries are kept is your setting. |
| What was found on a tab | The addresses of media a page requested, held only while that tab is open. They are discarded when the tab is closed or the browser is restarted. |
Only requests to the website whose video you are downloading, and only for the video itself: the playlist, the video and audio pieces, subtitles, and the thumbnail. These are the same requests your browser would make while playing that video, and they go to that website and nowhere else. They are sent with your browser's cookies for that site, exactly as playback is, so that a video you are entitled to watch can be fetched at all.
The extension makes no request of its own to any other address, at any time, for any reason.
If you press "Report a problem", the extension copies a diagnostic text to your clipboard and opens a Google Form in a new tab. It does not send anything: you can read the text, edit or delete any part of it, and it reaches us only if you choose to paste it and press submit yourself. What you submit there is handled by Google Forms under Google's privacy policy, and is used only to understand the fault you are reporting.
The Settings screen also links to a Telegram group. Following that link opens Telegram, which is a separate service with its own privacy policy. The extension shares nothing with it.
webRequest |
To notice that a page has requested a video. This is how the extension finds anything at all. Requests are read, never recorded off-device. |
|---|---|
declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess |
To attach the correct Referer to a download, because
many sites refuse to serve their own video without it. |
downloads |
To save the finished file where your browser saves downloads. |
storage, unlimitedStorage |
To keep your settings and your download history on your computer, and to hold the pieces of a large video in the browser's own file storage while it is being assembled — a film does not fit in the ordinary quota. The pieces are deleted as soon as the file is saved. |
offscreen |
To do the downloading and assembling in a hidden page, so the work survives the popup being closed. |
| Access to all websites | Video can be on any website, and the extension cannot know in advance which one you will be on. It reads a page only to find the video it is playing and what that video is called. It does not read page content for any other purpose, and does not touch pages you are not on. |
The extension is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
If the extension ever changes in a way that affects this policy, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. The commitment that nothing is transmitted is a design decision, not a temporary state; were it ever to change, it would be stated here plainly and before the fact.
